About this package

Classic Shell

Classic Shell preserves the familiar HiveCast desktop interaction that existed immediately before the ShellContext/zoom experiments. Its exact source baseline is Git commit 12e57d6db1cc6094c8fea1eb355090caa9e6ca61, the parent of transition commit 89edd767754690dd11663285a6a16979186ead1b (feat(shell): unify session ShellContext semantics).

The historical source already used the dark HiveCast desktop, gold Start button, application menu, taskbar switching, close controls, session service, Directory/Registry catalog, resident activation and Matrix-delivered component loading. This package preserves that presentation as a distinct application while reusing the maintained kernel implementation for those stable services. It removes the later attention/results tray, camera zoom button, Omega and diagnostic presentation from the human surface. It does not substitute a new Windows 95 gray theme.

The package has its own immutable identity, runtime mount, component tag, module id and direct route. When mounted inside another Shell, the parent owns the application occurrence and Classic Shell creates a contained internal desktop scope. Its Start, taskbar, close and navigation state never attach to the ambient browser Shell session.

Shared appearance

The shell installs the light/dark theme owned by @open-matrix/hivecast-brand. Application shadow trees inherit its --mx-* tokens. Start, application headers and taskbar use the same icon vocabulary; task widths use the shared task tokens and task buttons expose the full application name in their title. The desktop keeps its stable bottom row without adding a shell top bar.
